Chicago Modernism Show & Sale: March 27-29, 2009

This weekend in Chicago is the annual Chicago Modernism Show & Sale. I plan on attending one day this weekend. It will be my first time at this event and I am looking forward to it as I am a fan of modern furniture. This exhibit boasts "over 50 noted national and international decorative and fine arts exhibitors presenting all design movements of the 20th century." I am looking forward to it. http://www.chicagomodernism.net

Tabula Tua- Dragonfly Glass

A few weeks ago, I got out of work a bit earlier than usual and decided to window shop at the stores on Armitage street in Chicago. It was at the top of my list to stop at Tabula Tua where one can find "casual, everyday tableware, serving pieces and unusual tabletop accessories that are beautiful, unique and of the highest handcrafted quality. We have since expanded our selection to include other home furnishings ranging from rugs to furniture to clocks and pillows." Prior to my shopping excursion at this tableware boutique, I looked on their website for something to buy with my gift certificate. And what I found were these fabulous dragonly glasses handcrafted from recycled glass. They has that every so slight green cast in the glass and look something like the texture and thickness of old coke bottles. And the etched dragonfly motiff are a nice touch. I drink out of these glasses all the time. http://www.tabulatua.com/tabula/product.asp?s_id=0&prod_name=Dragonfly+Iced+Tea+Glasses+by+Mariposa&pf_id=PAAAAAHONFFNHGGI&dept_id=4826

Crans Baldwin, Donghia & Bergamo President & CEO

I sat in on a presentation on Friday, March 20, 2009 at the Chicago Merchandise Mart which was given by Crans Baldwin, the Donghia & Bergamo President & CEO. He discussed active steps that designers can implement into their business practices to keep one's business moving forward during this global recession and these tough economic times. Our design industry as many, many other industries are experiencing changes which are causing some to reinvent themselves, explore other areas of design work, or work in new and different ways that will help one streamline one's business, etc. I found Crans's presentation to be helpful, thoughtful and interesting as he has an international perspective, interacts with many tradespeople on many levels and has worked in the industry for 23+ years. His post-presentation handout also supplied the attendees with a 25 helpful tips to aid one's business in addition to various online sources which can provide a fountain of information to a designer.<http://www.donghia.com/news/

Donghia, Chicago- Showroom Grand Opening

The grand opening of the expanded and renovated Donghia showroom on March 13, 2009 succeeded in wow-ing the design industry. They created eight beautiful furniture vignettes with layered textures, materials, accessories and fabrics, etc. Each vignette shows the breadth of look, style and feel of all that Donghia has to offer. And as one walks down the hall towards the back of the showroom, one will find five aisles of luxurious fabric lines from all over the world in addition to the Boyd lighting fixtures that are seen hanging from the ceiling of each aisle. Donghia now showcases all of their collections in a rich and glamorous way. <http://www.donghia.com/news/
